This week's question comes from Mishka Jenkins who would like us to detail our writing strengths and weakness.
Boy, the weakness part is easy. I am terrible about punctuation. Specifically about commas and apostrophes. Every time I see one of those memes about punctuation, I am certain they are targeted straight at me.
But my strengths? This is a tough one. My critique partners tell me I'm pretty good about creating emotion with my words. To be honest, sometimes I cry while I'm writing a scene. But when I make my critique partners cry (and in a good way, not because the writing is so bad) then I believe I've done my job. Or when I make people laugh because of the way I've said something. The first time open critique session I attended, my chapter was read aloud. When other people in the room laughed I was shocked. I never really thought of my words as funny, but several of them came up to me afterward and said they found it hysterical. You can bet that made me very happy! |
