Today's challenge comes from another dear friend, Sarah Hegger, Historical and Contemporary Romance Author. Check out her Amazon Page for details about her great books. Sarah wanted us to share a great beginning from our favorite book and then our opening lines from our Work In Progress. So here goes:
Her great beginning goes like this:
Life changes Fast.
Life changes in the instant.
You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.
Those were the first words I wrote after it happened.
This book was truly stunning in its candor, its piercing details, and its simplicity. Loss is never easy. Even though I read this book years ago, those thoughts have stayed with me. I'm rereading this book right now, after losing my cousin to the very same illness that Joan's daughter eventually recovered from. Life is precious. And it can change in an instant. Be sure you tell your loved ones and friends how much they mean to you. You can't know when the opportunity will be taken from you.
On a less maudlin note, my current work in progress, Team Vino (working title and not a very good one I must say) is meant to be funny and snarky. This is a short story I'm working on for a boxed set and will be the precursor to my new series, Romancing The Vine. Here's my opener from it:
Jules Rosetti’s happy, quiet, far-from-the-madding-crowd life tumbled straight into the shitter in the time it took her assistant to utter eight fateful words.
“I thought you told her she couldn’t come.”
Look for novella in July, 2015.
And now, you should check out Elizabeth Janett's great beginning. I'm heading there myself.
