1.Does humor help or hinder you in your creative process?
It definitely helps. I find myself harvesting humorous little gems from a lot of unlikely sources. Typically, reality television, specifically any of the Real Housewives franchises. Those bishes might fight like girls, but they are funny. Some of my very best lines comes from them. I'm always looking for ways to sprinkle in their comments and love it when something crazy pops out of my character's mouth.
2.What is a favorite go-to book or movie you use to unblock a problem in your writing?
Tarot For Writers by Corrine Kenner. I find that the card descriptions are fabulous when confronted with a spot where I don't know what comes next. One of my critique partners did a reading for me on my first book and I was instantly hooked on the idea. As far as a movie goes, hands down, it's Pitch Perfect. I laugh every time Rebel Wilson vows to finish Bumper like a cheesecake. I can relax and laugh at the movie and still be energized to sit and write when it's over.
It wasn't a book, but a conversation. On the way home from RWA National in San Antonio, we were listening to some amazing tunes from the 80s. I'm planning to write a series based on an album I loved when I was much younger. If you listen to the words of songs, the ideas will flow like honey in the promise land.
