This week is it my turn and I have chosen to introduce you to Clay Mathers, the hero in my novel, Hearts In Harmony, published by Lyrical Press, A Kensington Imprint.

Clay Mathers is a complete figment of my imagination. But I had a little inspiration for his image. Clay's mom had a stroke and he's moved to her home to help out with her business while she recovers. Mom owns a Christmas tree farm, which is something I've always wanted to do.
When and where is the story set?
The story is in present day and it is set in Granite Pointe, Massachusetts. This is a fictional suburb of Boston. While I don't think of the town as character in its' own right in the series, I've loved exploring the world my characters live in.
What should we know about him?
Clay is a man who uses his gruff nature to hide the very sweet center of him. I loved peeling away the outer layers on him until I'd exposed his essence. He's a traveling man, so it was hard for him to settle down. At least until he met Pippa Sanders and her two kids. There is one scene, in Pippa's yard in the middle of the night when we find out just how much of a family man he really is.
What messes up his life?
Clay's life has been very orderly up until recently. He's former military and still works for the government. One of the tasks he's working on is tracking a group of protesters. This hate group is planning something heinous, and unfortunately, one man in the group has Pippa in the crosshairs.
What is the personal goal of the character?
Clay's goal evolves as the story progresses. His initial goal was to help his mom heal and then get back to his life. Once he meets Pippa, he decides he can have a good time while stuck in the small town. But that changes when he falls hard for her. He has to work to convince Pip he's staying with her.
