So excited to introduce Jenna Jaxon, best selling author of a wide variety of stories. Doesn't seem to matter what genre she chooses to write in, the novel is always delightful and capable of drawing you deep into the story. Today, she's offering a snippet of her work in progress, a Historical Romance, and a look at the story she has in Crashing Into Love, a boxed set. Enjoy! |
Several hours later, the moon had risen high in the sky when Charlotte and Edward slowed for another toll gate. They had passed through four already and after the first one Charlotte had turned the bag of coins over to Edward to take care of the fees. A twinge in her hip, an ache in her thigh muscle told her that her body had begun to feel the strain of constant motion in the saddle. When they finally stopped, she doubted she would want to climb back on Sophie.
Pulled down to a slow walk, her horse nickered, and from somewhere behind the toll gate another one answered. Charlotte patted her and glanced at Edward who had dismounted and was knocking on the door of the toll house.
The door jerked open. A huge hand grasped Edward’s shoulder and pulled him inside.
“Edward!” Charlotte dropped the reins peeled her aching leg from around the horn of the side saddle and slid to the ground.
“Ha, got ya!”
As soon as her boots hit the dirt, two men appeared from nowhere, grabbed her arms, and hustled her toward the toll booth. She pulled back and forth, trying to break free, but their big hands clamped down on her like a vise.
“Edward! Edward! Help! Someone, help.” Charlotte shrieked as they dragged her toward the building. Dear Lord, they must be highwaymen. She had heard sickening stories about the dangerous criminals who roamed the roads, preying on unlucky travelers. Her stomach twisted.
At the threshold they loosened their grip to get her through the door. Charlotte swung around and raked her fingernails down one man’s face.
He let out a yelp and pushed her away from him, into the house.
She wheeled toward the other man, bent on a similar attack but stopped, shocked at the tableau before her.
Oh, I want to know what Charlotte saw! And good on her for fighting off her would-be kidnappers. Now, how about a look at her story in Crashing Into Love. I love the premise of stories of survival and love.

More than hearts can be broken when you crash through time.
