My sister-in-law, LC, was in town for a visit. She was attending the Silpada Jewelry convention which is always a good excuse for me to get my friends together for a little sangria and silver party. You know, invite people over to try on and buy jewelry, share good food and silly stories. Sort of a Girls’ Night Out, but on a Sunday afternoon.
About 30 minutes before the guests were due to arrive, LC and my daughter put me in time-out. The nerve! I was banished to my room until they finished decorating. So, I patiently (okay, not so much--I had twenty women scheduled to be at my house in 30 minutes, for crying out loud) sat in my room and played Words with Friends while they worked their magic.
And magic it was! When I was finally invited downstairs, they’d posted large pictures of my book cover throughout the house and strung a congratulatory banner on the mantle. My SIL had blown my book cover I’d shared with her up to a 28 by 36 sized frame-worthy poster. AND made wine glass charms. They’d turned my simple little jewelry party into a celebration of my writing. There may have been tears shed.
I love those women! And the other women who knew they were coming to help me celebrate my achievement, but pretended they were coming to a jewelry party.
Friends and family make my world go ‘round, and that’s the way it should be.
